Cost centers

Cost centers are the backbone of Contrixt: budgets, bookings, contracts, licenses and applications are assigned to them — every analysis can be broken down by cost center.

Creating a cost center

Under Cost centers you create entries with a code (e.g. IT-INFRA) and a name. The code must be unique per tenant.

Employee count & weight (IT costs per employee)

On each cost center you can optionally maintain two additional values for the IT costs per employee report:

• Employee count — the number of people working at this cost center.
• Weight — a freely chosen value for manual cost allocation, independent of employee count or license users.

Which of the two actually feeds into the cost allocation depends on the allocation key selected under Settings → Finance & taxes.

Hierarchy

Via the Parent field a cost center gets a parent cost center — forming a tree (e.g. IT → IT infrastructure → IT cloud). Analyses and access rights respect the subtree: whoever has access to IT also sees the cost centers below it.

Restricting access (scoping)

For users with the budget owner role, administrators can limit access to selected cost centers (Administration → Users → Cost center access). Without a selection, access to all cost centers applies. Details under Users & roles.

Deleting

When you delete a cost center, Contrixt inspects the entire subtree and shows, before deleting, what would be removed with it: sub cost centers, budgets, bookings and purchase orders, plus assigned contracts and investments. If such dependencies exist, you must explicitly approve their co-deletion via a checkbox in the dialog — deletion is irreversible. Applications and licenses are not deleted, they only lose their cost center assignment.

Recommendation

Mirror your existing cost center structure from ERP or controlling and use the same codes — this makes the CSV import of bookings considerably easier.
